The Supreme Court has just ruled that New York State’s policy of not allowing concealed weapons carry, unless a citizen proved some special need for it, unconstitutional. Justice Thomas, writing for the majority, declared that the principle of self-defense recognized in the 2nd Amendment was abused by such a burden. He argued that no other amendment was treated in such a fashion.
Scripturally we agree with the ruling. Secondly, we contend that opponents to the 2nd Amendment are, in fact, opponents of self-defense. And they’re opponents to self-defense because they oppose God and freedom. Just as Cain hated Abel because Abel was, in faith, right with God, the principle of atheism (God-hatred) always leads to war with neighbor. Cain, like all tyrants, don’t want their intended victims to be armed.
That said, we caution the reader against the Left’s hysterical and totalitarian assault upon the principle of self-defense. The dissenting judges on the Court put forward nonsensical complaints rather than arguments in their opposition. They pointed out that there have been mass shootings. They complained that there would be more suicides. It boggles the mind that such learned legal minds as Kagan, Sotomayor, and Breyer could succumb to such vacuousness. What does your right to carry a tool of self-defense with you outside your home have to do with either of those? How does your legal right to carry your weapon with you lead to other people committing suicide?
Indeed, as we like to remind the reader, sin makes us stupid.
Justice Alito was prompted by this to issue a reply. He pointed out the dissent’s irrationality. Oh, and he also added that the defensive gun use in America prevents over 2 million crimes every year. Yes. That’s two million.
But that’s not going to stop the idol factory known as the Left from caterwauling insanely about the ruling. Stop and think for a moment. If someone is this hopping mad over a free citizen having a weapon for self-defense then that person must be either a criminal or a tyrant. There’s no other rational explanation. If you aren’t committing crimes why would you care if law-abiding citizens are armed? The reason the Left hates private citizens having firearms is because they are allergic to freedom. Modern leftism is tyranny’s latest incarnation. It has Starbucks and IPhones, it uses Twitter and likes the conveniences free markets have provided but deep down there’s a simmering hatred of the fact that other people disagree with them. The root of Leftism is the hatred of God. It’s the principle of Cain. And Cain doesn’t want Abel to have his own rock.
Think of it this way. If the Left were intellectually consistent (and sin never can be) in its love affair with so-called disempowered minorities, then they’d love the 2nd Amendment. If a rabid group of right-wingers (in fantasy land, of course) wanted to abuse some gay folks, or slap around a drag queen, or beat the bejabbers out of a black man – just because! – what better solution than for the intended victim to be personally armed. That’s the ticket! The drag queen can pull out his trusty Glock 19 (we assume they have room for more than the baby Glocks…just saying) and now it’s a fight.
It’s hard to victimize people who shoot back. That’s the lesson of logic. It’s the lesson of history. It’s the lesson of Scripture.
If we truly love the weak we arm them. If we truly love justice we strengthen the population because sin isn’t driven out by law but by grace. In another way of understanding Romans 7, until Christ comes back, we live under the new law of faith…and we stay armed because of those who aren’t. If the Apostle Paul struggled with sin, what do you think the unconverted will do. Every time you read Romans 7, praise the Lord for the grace of God in Jesus Christ, for salvation through faith alone, and remember that sin is too strong for us. Only Christ beats sin. It’s for that reason that we need self-defense in a fallen world.
The Left rejects this, of course. They hate God and His word/law. The state is, therefore, their false-god and this is why they so loathe the 2nd Amendment. Sin so plays you for a fool (speaking to Leftists) that you at once call to defund the police AND disarm the citizenry. To be that stupid is impressive – and we mean that in the Christian way. Seriously. It’s such a dangerous form of cognitive dissonance that it must be called to account. A weakened civil magistrate and an unarmed population is a recipe for unmitigated human suffering. Such a calamitous contradiction is only possible to a pampered and spoiled generation of rubes who’ve never been in a real fight in their life and can’t fathom one.
The governor of New York had this to say:
KATHY HOCHUL: “Shocking. Absolutely shocking that they have taken away our right to have reasonable restrictions. We can have restrictions on speech. You can’t yell fire in a crowded theater, but somehow there’s no restrictions allowed on the Second Amendment?”
This is an unadulterated lie. The ruling said nothing about which guns could be sold and what the standards of purchase are. She knows plain well that there already are reasonable restrictions with background checks, age requirements, and training required to carry. Those are the literal definition of what she says she can’t do. Make no mistake, this means she’s either a moron, mentally unfit for her office, or a brazen liar, therefore ethically unfit for office. She went on:
“I would like to point out to the Supreme Court justices, that the only weapons at that time were muskets. I’m prepared to go back to muskets.”
She said this on Twitter. The First Amendment was written into law when all we had were pens and meager printing presses. Should we ban social media now? According to her principle, we must.
We point this out because Ms. Hochul isn’t just some crazed social media nut head. She’s the governor! And this is the balderdash she resorts to in opposition to a completely well-reasoned Supreme Court ruling. We include her because it shows how irrational all arguments against self-defense are. The Left believes in the lie of Satan that there’s no sin in them and that their true problem is that the world is unfair. To that end, they try to remake God’s world to suit them…so that they can continue in their sin and be free of His law. This is the principle of anarchy and to support it, alas, they must have security…hence their turn to state tyranny. This explains why the most ardent atheists of our time aren’t libertarians but totalitarians.
Why does the principle of self-defense draw such hatred from the Left? Because self-defense is the moral act and right of a free person. Idolaters hate freedom because they have none. They’re slaves to sin. Sin makes us slaves. It makes us whining children, not men. A man who rejects the true God loses his humanity and casts himself into a dark and unpredictable future so he seeks to control that future. A criminal controls it through the force of his own arms. A Leftist, unable to win a fight, seeks to control it through his proxy the idol-state.
Thus, the controversy over the 2nd Amendment is a religious issue rather than a political one. It’s religious because self-defense is a response to sin. What the state worshippers can’t understand is that the church conquers sin through the peaceful preaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ. No force is used. And the free citizen can defend themselves if that particular sin – crime – touches them. This is the logic of the 1st and 2nd Amendments and why they aren’t understood in our vacuous time.
They hate the church. They hate that it’s voluntary while everywhere the Left, through its false god, taxes and regulates. The tyrant-state will force you to be good (according to their shifting standards) whereas God’s Kingdom on earth preaches and loves and there’s no compulsion. An armed free person who can defend against a criminal. The Leftist views the self-defender as the criminal for the temerity of acting like a free person.
Make no mistake. The argument about the 2nd Amendment is about freedom and self-defense and that means it’s about religion. The Left hates self-defense because it hates God and wants to be god over his neighbor, which is impossible if the neighbor is armed.
So, put your faith in Him who saves, not by works but by faith. And until that Day when He comes again in glory, be prepared for war because sin is still the reality in this world.
