“Abhor what is evil.” Romans 12:9
Gun control/confiscation is sinful as it erodes a free people’s right to defend themselves. Cain killed Abel with a rock. God didn’t get rid of the rocks, did he? He blamed and punished Cain, no one else. We have a sin problem, not a gun problem.
America is undoubtedly in the throes of God’s judgment. We know this because Romans 1:18-32 details how God responds to man’s willful rejection of Him. How does it work out? Here’s the pattern.
Romans tells us that men kick God out of their considerations and refuse to acknowledge Him. They turn ungrateful and thankless. They have no excuse for this because God has made himself known to everyone through creation and common sense moral law (Romans 1:18-21; 2:14-15).
In the 1960’s America went through an atheistic revolution that secularized her. Courts ruled that the Scripture readings and prayer that started the day in nearly 9 out of 10 public schools was unconstitutional. Since that time public school’s have been hostile to the Lord Jesus Christ and millions of children have been taught that there’s no ultimate meaning in life except for their immediate and personal happiness. In the mid-60’s 94% of women thought pre-marital sex with the man they KNEW they were going to marry was still wrong. Today no young woman would even consider the question as rational. Sex and sexual expression are considered the sacred rights of secular humanism. Most kids today simply don’t know how total and radical was the revolution of the 60’s.
Sexual promiscuity is irresponsible and causes horrifying family and social damage. To “remedy” this, sinners haven’t repented, they’ve turned to the state to ameliorate the consequences. This is the chain of logic for America’s great idol of sex-and-state. And it explains why personal responsibility and the Biblical family are so hated by the Left.
Pre-1960’s America is remarkable for the thankfulness and humility of its people. Reading the journals of settlers that endured amazing hardships – staggering in their deprivations and trials – we see that they’re filled with praises to God for His grace. The dominant qualities of early American character were humility and thankfulness despite having fractions of the leisure and wealth we have today.
Since the 1960’s, though, arrogance and bitterness have taken root just as the Lord said it would in Romans. Most leftists are walking complaint factories. They jibber-jabber endlessly about their rights and what society owes them, and nothing about their responsibilities. It’s all take and no give. Before the secular revolution God and family were one’s core; today it’s sex and state. This is idolatry. Sure, we don’t see people bowing down to little statues but bow down they do. Sex and state are god in the schools – and the schools are the churches and seminaries of the secular humanist order.
So, what is God’s judgment? He starts to “give them over” to their catastrophic choices. Three times in Romans 1:24-28 we read this. Judgement starts by God abandoning those who abandon Him. He pulls back His grace and gives them over to the consequences of their evil choices. The logic of all this is clear. The wrath of God is shown in the consequences and we must see these as downpayment of the terrible wrath still to come. Today is still the day of grace!
Repent.
America needs to take heed of the chaos and carnage she sees and turn back to God in humble repentance so that He will have mercy on us. A broken and contrite spirit He will not despise. So, we mourn the victims of mass murder (notice we didn’t call it a shooting) and cry out to God to have mercy upon us.
President Biden and his allies have no such intention, though. The President spoke hours after the murders and blamed the “gun lobby.” Others have gone so far as to say that anyone who supports owning firearms for self-defense is thereby guilty of murder. They’re all one pagan voice crying out to Moloch (the state) to “do something” – not about the evil in our culture but about the gun. The fact that more Americans had guns in their homes 40 years ago than today doesn’t give them pause. The fact that guns were always plentiful in America but only recently such murders, doesn’t bring them to sober refection. A reasonable detective would, when looking at such a case, notice the one thing that was there and isn’t now.
Back then, before this age of mass murder, there was God in the schools and there were guns. Now in the age of mass murder there is no God in the schools but still guns.
The difference is the heart that has no meaning and is brought up in a soil of hedonistic bitterness. Unable to be thankful, rage grows in the arid soil of atheism. In Christianity, we know that Christ suffered for us so that we might be saved. In humanistic hedonism when someone is frustrated they’re incapable of endurance; they see no point in it because everything is right now. Christ pays for sins in Christianity; hedonists will want others to pay.
In Genesis 4, Cain was frustrated. He hated that God was God and that he was accountable to him. Cain hated responsibility. Unable to get at God, he killed his brother, Abel. When God judged him for this, sending him into exile, Cain didn’t lament his sin but the consequences of it. He didn’t mourn for Abel but for the reality that he would be unsafe in a world where everyone else lived by the same principle of self-rule.
This is the theological reason behind President Biden’s call for gun confiscation. (And make no mistake…they don’t mean gun control. We already have that. We already have background checks. What they want but are too deceitful to say is full confiscation). Sinners who reject God end up terrified in a world where everyone else plays by their own personal rules, for their own happiness. Cain feared for his safety. It was a logical fear because, just as Biden’s allies know now, that the principle of sin is carnivorous. Without God’s moral law as our center, we’ll devour each other.
President Biden kept invoking God’s name in vain the other day. It was fitting. He’s an idolator. We call on him to repent. The false gods of sex and state have brought us to a point where gang violence, overdose deaths, mass murders, civil unrest, financial collapse, family erosion, and mental illness are rampant. He didn’t think to repent. Instead he used God’s name multiple times in service to his idol-state. He was, like Cain, a cry-bully. He griped about the consequences of sin and then had the temerity to use God’s name to demand the self-defense tools of free citizens so that his false state-god would grow stronger. Yes, the cry-bully-in-chief told the sin sick country reeling from mass murder that the way to be stronger was to be personally weaker. Didn’t this fulfill God’s decree that “claiming to be wise, they became fools (Romans 1:22)? That a people who can’t control themselves, nor defend themselves, who cry out to be protected from their sins, are anything but a free people never occurred to the dilapidated intellect of Mr. Biden.
A fool indeed. We pray for his soul and that he repents of his vanity and idolatrous invocation of the Lion of Judah’s name in the service of his sin.
What the President should have said is that America must seek God. From her knees. She must humble herself as she sees those ominous and darkened clouds gather before her. God is merciful to those who seek Him in faith. And Mr. Biden should have said this and that peace will not come until we are at peace with Him through faith alone. He should have been a leader who spoke the truth about the reality of sin. He should have said that the 2nd Amendment was written by men who knew this reality and for that reason called free citizens to arm themselves for their own defense. The 2nd Amendment isn’t understood by those who are slaves to sin; it’s the Amendment of a free people who know the freedom of God through faith alone and accept the responsibility of life, which is self-defense.
The weasels cry for gun confiscation just like Cain whined. They don’t want true peace, they want inoculation so that they can continue in sin. They don’t hate sin, they hate the consequences of it. Sin makes cowards. True peace won’t come to earth until Christ comes again to obliterate sin. Until that time, stay on your knees before Christ in humble submission, love your wives/husbands/children, practice the virtues of self-control in Christ, do your work to the glory of God and service of your neighbor. Mind your own business. Love your neighbor. And arm yourselves, for this is a fallen world and you know it’s not truly safe. No man should fear you except for the criminal. The criminal should fear the civil magistrate (Romans 13:2-5) and the mighty self-defender (Romans 12:9,18; 1 Samuel 16:18).
So, be armed with truth and faith. Be armed to defend yourself and family in a sinful world. The two aren’t mutually exclusive. Being weak and stupid are products of lack of responsibility; let such not be said of men and women of God. President Biden doesn’t want God, though he used his name. He used His name to confuse you. Don’t be deceived. Self-defense is your right and responsibility. Be a man of God with faith to protect yourself from your own sin and weapons/self-defense training to protect yourself from the sins of others. This is true love and truth. President Biden is a liar.
